Day Five of the Partnership to Success program may seem off-putting to many aspiring online entrepreneurs. Pretty much every lesson is devoted not to building your business but to making your site legally compliant.

In fact, I must confess that my heart sank when I scrolled down the day’s list of training videos. But these are necessary steps to ensure that a site remains within the law.

Fortunately, John makes the process as easy as possible through his suggestions for various inexpensive plugins that do much for the job for you.

I would, however, advise that you read all of the legal documents you need to publish on your site, making one or two amendments or clarifications where necessary. In some places you will also need to add a contact email address.

Additionally, you may find that there is some duplication between pages and the different plugins on offer, so make sure you publish only one version of each policy, disclaimer or set of terms.

Should you be in any doubt, then you may wish to seek professional legal advice, as John recommends.

The day finishes with a long video on GDPR compliance. I couldn’t have imagined anything worse!

However, the presentation is worth it alone for Randy Smith’s hilarious rants about EU bureaucracy. John is a little more restrained, but I empathize with their shared frustration with having to adhere to endless reams of rules that seemingly fail to add value for our customers.

However, once all of this is out of the way, it’s done. I’m now looking forward to some more business-oriented tasks tomorrow!
